Access College Foundation, Cox Communications Partner for Higher Education

The Access College Foundation and Cox Communications have formed a community partnership that includes a $25,000 college scholarship and a public service campaign. The campaign will include locally produced and aired public service announcements to motivate and inspire young people to go to college or other post-secondary education. Access announced the partnership at their annual luncheon held at the Norfolk Waterside Marriott on Tuesday November 20th.

Gary McCollum, Vice President & Region Manager of Cox Hampton Roads presents a scholarship endowment to Bonnie B. Sutton President and CEO or Access College.

Cox will endow a special scholarship through Access. Each year, the $25,000 endowment will produce a $1,000 scholarship for a local high school student pursuing a post-secondary degree in technology. The partnership will also include presentations to Cox employees informing and educating them about how to find and secure financial aid for their children or themselves.

"Youth and education has long been the cornerstone of community outreach at Cox," said Gary McCollum, Vice President & Region Manager of Cox Hampton Roads. "The entire community benefits from higher education. That's why we are proud to support the Access College Foundation which is designed to give every student in Hampton Roads access to higher education and the opportunity to reach their fullest potential."

Now in its 20th year, Access has helped over 50,000 students get to college, and has leveraged $175 million in financial aid for a portion of these students. Access employs college access advisors in all 29 public high schools in South Hampton Roads. Access Advisors help students and their families navigate the college application and financial aid processes.
