Cox 11 Presents a Special Documentary Look Back at The End of Massive Resistance in Hampton Roads
In September of 1958, Schools in Norfolk closed to prevent 17 African-American students from entering previously segregated schools. They became known as the Norfolk 17.

PREMIERES SUNDAY, JUNE 7, 2009 @ 8pm
In addition, thousands of other students were displaced from their schools when Norfolk closed them to prevent integration. They became known as the Lost Class of 1959.
Those schools reopened by order of the courts in February 1959, and 50 Years later, the city of Norfolk commemorated the End of Massive Resistance.
Cox Communications presents a special look at this tumultuous time 50 years ago as we sit down with members of the Norfolk 17 and Lost Class to hear their stories first hand.
Watch “Looking Back: The End of Massive Resistance in Hampton Roads,” presented by Cox 11 with special support from the City of Norfolk and Norfolk Neighborhood Television.
We extend our deepest appreciation to the Members of the Norfolk 17 and the Lost Class of 1959 for sharing their thoughts and experiences with us.
