Cox and USO Partner on Cell Phone Recycling Program with Program Benefitting Soldiers


Program Runs from April 1 through April 30

Chesapeake , VA – From April 1 through April 30, Cox will accept cell phones for recycling at its two Retail Solutions Stores in the Hampton Roads region. Cox and the USO of Hampton Roads are partnering on this cell phone recycling initiative for April, Earth Month. Proceeds from the recycling of phones will be used to provide wireless devices and/or phone cards to Hampton Roads-based soldiers and their families serving our country. The USO of Hampton Roads will coordinate the purchase and distribution of the devices.

“We are very pleased to partner with the USO on this environmental initiative which also supports the military. It’s easy to participate and we hope that Hampton Roads residents take advantage of this very simple way to supports our troop and the environment,” said Leigh Woisard, Vice President Public Affairs.

Used cell phones will be accepted at the following locations throughout the month of April:

Bruce LaLonde, CEO of the USO of Hampton Roads said, “This is a wonderful partnership between Cox and the USO. It is indicative of Cox’s commitment to the military community of Hampton Roads and the environment.”

In addition to this cell phone recycling activity, Cox also will host an e-waste recycling event on Saturday, April 24, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Greenbrier Mall in Chesapeake . The event is open to the public and is free-of-charge to participants. It is hosted in partnership with the City of Chesapeake , the Chesapeake Environmental Improvement Council, Synergy Recycling and Greenbrier Mall. Finally, free recycling and collection of business e-waste is also offered from April 1 to May 31.
