Cox Hampton Roads Names 17 Area VCTA Local Scholarship Recipients

(Chesapeake, VA) -- Seventeen Hampton Roads students have been named 2008-09 Virginia’s Future Leaders Scholarship winners by Cox Communications of Hampton Roads and the Virginia Cable Telecommunications Association (VCTA). 

Named scholarships recipients from Hampton Roads are as follows:

  • Crystal Jane  Bialas, Virginia Beach - Attending Tidewater Community College
  • Skyler Bivens, Virginia Beach - Attending University of Virginia
  • Bret Alan   Blythe, Chesapeake- Attending Virginia Tech
  • Toan Do,  Virginia Beach - Attending University of Virginia
  • Brittany  Edwards,  Blacksburg - Attending Virginia Tech
  • Kelly Farley,  Chesapeake - Attending University of Virginia
  • Irhanda Alycia Gray, Chesapeake - Attending Saint Leo University
  • Emily Hardy, Virginia Beach - Attending University of Virginia
  • Andrea Hilliard, Chesapeake - Attending Old Dominion University
  • Zachary  McNett, Portsmouth   - Attending Emory & Henry

Gary McCollum, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Cox Hampton Roads, said, “Presenting these scholarships to Hampton Road students has become a great annual tradition. We are delighted to help these students pursue higher education and reached their full potential.” 

The scholarships were included among 58 awarded to Virginia students this year with. A total of over $100,000 in scholarships was awarded by local cable systems across the Commonwealth in partnership with the Donald A. Perry Foundation.
